April 2017 Newsletter
Welcome back to the final term of the year, we have loads of fun and exciting things planned for this term.
We have a new mobile for the Monkey House the number is 07984 203701, please use this number when needing to contact nursery school during school hours. The original number 07778 031691 is still available for you to be able to contact Nickie in the evenings, weekends and during holidays. We have had to have the new phone to comply with Ofsted guidelines of having a phone without a camera. The new number is on our Facebook page and in the news section of our website (as yet I haven’t worked out how to change the phone number on the contact details).
We also have to ask that parents do not use their own mobiles within the setting.
Week beginning 1 May
Nickie will not be at Monkey House during the first week of May (I am being taken away for my birthday). Debbie and Gloria will be in that week to cover the hours that Nickie’s not here. Please use the new phone number that week if you need to contact staff. Nickie will have her phone with her in Venice so if it is an emergency she is still available to talk.
We have planned several total outdoor days this term on a Friday these will be dependent on weather. We will have lots of extra activities set up in our outside area, we will use the field and the woods for various activities during the day. Our first planned outdoor day is this Friday 28th April. We will put future dates on the white board.
Please can we ask that you send your child with a sun hat each day and also apply sun cream before your child arrives. If your child stays all day then we will reapply sun cream at lunch time if you supply a named bottle and hand it to a member of staff in the morning when you arrive.
Monkey House Birthday
We have booked the hall to hold our 20th birthday party on Sunday 2nd July between 2 and 4 pm. The party is for any past and present parents and staff who would like to attend. If you are in contact with any of our past families we would really appreciate you letting them know. We would like to know approximate numbers so if you could let us know if you are planning to come that would be great. We are hoping to have a bouncy castle for our younger guests, face painting, a barbeque and crepes available for people to purchase. Everyone will be welcome to bring drinks along to help us celebrate. We will of course have a cake and 20 balloon release. Children who have attended the Monkey House are now living all over the world so it will be fun to see how far our balloons get.
Thank you so much for the support we received for our fundraising last term, we now have couple of balance bikes and a table for messy outdoor play along with other equipment to enhance our discovery and clever fingers activities. With Government funding rates being far lower than our hourly session fee and other costs increasing (insurance, rent, staff pay etc…) we are increasingly having to rely on fundraising to make ends meet. So we really do appreciate all the support that you give.
Annual Fun Run
May sees our annual fun run take place, this is a sponsored event that raises money to pay for the leavers trip to Paultons Park and to replace or add to our current equipment. This year the event will be held on Wednesday 24th May at 11.30, sponsor forms will be given out next week. The children will run around the football pitch and each child taking part will be presented with a medal (our mini London marathon). It would be lovely if parents, family and friends come to support the children. All children will be involved even if they do not normally attend on a Wednesday. Please support our fundraising by sponsoring your child.
We are planning a summer concert this year of the children to show you some of the things they have been learning in music lessons, French lessons and during our sessions. The proposed date is Monday 12th June. We will let you know times etc when we have finalised them.
Jolly Phonics letters for this term
8th May w
15th May v
22nd May y
5th June x
12th June q
Following weeks we will focus on letters that children are finding hard to remember like b and d.
Please can you help your child to find something that begins with the weeks letter and bring it in for our sound table.
Theme for this half term
We are going to continue having a special book focus each week, but adding in a focus on authors.
“The tiger that came to tea”
“The hungry caterpillar”
“The bad tempered ladybird”
“The very busy spider” plus others
The government’s pledge to provide 30 hours free childcare for working parents comes into place in September, as yet we are unsure if we are going to be able to offer this and stay sustainable as the hourly rate is considerably lower than our hourly rate. Also Hampshire have not yet released their funding agreement, until they do we will not know what flexibility we will have to enable us to offer the hours without losing money. If we do offer this it will only be for a limited number of places as we still want to ensure that non funded children and 2 year olds will still be able to have a place. If you think you are eligible for this funding and would like to take advantage of it please talk to Nickie.
